There’s something so powerful about shooting at the beach during golden hour — the wind, the light, the rhythm of the waves. I recently photographed Angie at Palmetto Park Beach in Boca Raton, and the combination of the elements gave the whole session an emotional, cinematic feel. With the sun dipping low and the wind catching her dress, every moment felt both spontaneous and intentional.

The Beauty of Wind and Motion

It was one of those breezy South Florida evenings, and instead of fighting the wind, we leaned into it. Angie's blue dress flowed with each gust, creating movement that brought the images to life. The soft fabric fluttering against the backdrop of the ocean added a natural elegance and an almost editorial feel to the shoot.

If you’ve ever wondered whether wind can “ruin” a beach session — the answer is no. It can absolutely enhance it.

Soft Color Tones and Thoughtful Details

Angie wore a beautiful blue dress that harmonized perfectly with the tones of the ocean and the sky at sunset. The color palette felt intentional and dreamy, tying together the mood of the beach, the golden hour light, and the natural backdrop. We also brought along some baby’s breath florals, which added a soft, romantic touch to a few shots, delicate enough to contrast the wildness of the sea.

Incorporating personal details is also one of my favorite ways to make a session more meaningful. Angie brought her Bible, and we were able to capture a few quiet, introspective moments with it. These felt especially powerful against the openness of the beach.

The Moody Vibe

As the sun dropped lower, we leaned into the moody, warm tones of sunset. The golden glow mixed with the overcast sky gave the whole session a slightly dramatic but beautiful atmosphere. The lighting created shadows, depth, and emotion. Basically everything you want from a golden hour beach portrait session.
